The Girl Is An Animal.

Shakira "She Wolf"

So for what feels like the past FOREVER and a half, this girlie seems to have dropped of the face of the earth only to come back part wolf?

Our girl Shakira comes back into the public eye with a new single named “La Loba” (or for those who don’t speak Spanish like Baxter, Ron Burgundy’s cutie sidekick, “She Wolf”). When I first started listening to this track I had a hard time believing that it was actually her, but as soon as the main vocals kick in it’s pretty clear. If you’re curious, yes, she’s still got the trademark “I’ve got something big lodged in my throat and I’ma sing around it” sound.

The track is catchy, and as per usual is offered in English and Español. Luckily, unlike some Spango to Engo songs, this song translates fairly well. ”I’m starting to feel just a little abused like a coffee machine in an office…” — Girl, tell me about it, you and at least a good handful of girls I went to high school with (laugh out-freaking-loud).

While I feel like this track has nothing on some of her past jam-a-ramas (like La Tortura — so fantastico), it’s still got a little zippy something to it. Give it a listen, see what you think, it’s a little plain and isn’t a personal favourite, but is worth a peek just the same. This girlie is definitely Miss Goshinmon APPROVED.

OH AND, before I forget, another little tid-bit about homegirl is that for her third studio English album she’s collabing with Pharrell. THAT’S CORRECT, y’heard me. Dig it. My fingers are quadruple crossed that this duo doesn’t dissapoint. Hopes are high, and until I hear a reason to bring them back down to middle ground, I’ma keep em’ up there. Stay tuned!

Dizzee Took Me On Holiday.

July 21, 2009 by missgoshinmon

Holiday!

Ah, mid-July and it feels SO nice. “Get your passport and your bikini, you need a holiday? Come see me.” Words from Dizzee Rascal — sold. Where do I sign-up?

Came across this jam a couple days ago, and tripped — no, fell face first, head over heels for it. Dizzee Rascal teams up with Calvin Harris to bring you yet another upbeat jam-a-rama fit for radio.

A slight step up from “Dance Wiv Me” in my opinion, I’m big on the synth used this time around. It’s catchy, it’s hot, it’s everything slow jams are NOT. Verdict: Miss Goshinmon APPROVED.

With the way that summer construction is shaping up here in the city who isn’t itchin’ to get the hell outta here? I’m all for bypassing the smog and tourists of my own city for a taste of somewhere else’s pollution. Serve me a big helping of swimming with dolphins and lying on searing hot sand — I’m down for both.

Escape from the day to day drag for a moment with this party kick-starter. Someone better call 9-11 (no, not you Sean Kingston), this song defs hits you like fire burnin’ up the dance floor. Enjoy!

The Most Interesting Man In The World

Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s official. I, Miss Goshinmon, have found the man of my dreams. His name? I don’t know. His style? Impeccable. He is the most interesting man in the world.

“He speaks French in Russian… and once had an awkward moment just to see what it felt like.” – C’mon, he’s hard not to dig. He’s like Richard Branson, only better.

The moment I saw this brilliant add for Dos Equis I knew I had to give at least a little shout out about it. It’s one of those adds/campaigns that comes along only every once and a while, but is so clever that it deserves at least a small mention.

While watching these adds, it genuinely made me feel like this was the beer of the gods and CLEARLY I was missing out. Lemme tell ya’, unlike my future beau here, I do often drink beer – but the next time I do, I’ll be sure that i’s Dos Equis.

Friday Faves 5.

July 17, 2009 by missgoshinmon

!@#$ YOU.

It’s been a very long, very bitter week for this girlie, and I for one am ultra glad that Friday is finally here. This has been one of those weeks where the span of time from Monday to Friday seems like instead of days has been eons and eons f’reals.

I’ve had tiffs with several people this week and am feeling regretful as I’m usually one who tries to avoid direct conflict. I have disagreed with many minds this week, and have been forced to take sides when it shouldn’t have been necessary.

This week for Friday Faves I have a couple calm songs that get out the hate in a collected quiet way. Enjoy kids, and hopefully you received your week well and continue good vibes into your weekend.

1. Lily Allen – Fuck You (DOCTOR ROSEN ROSEN Remix)

2. Daniel Merriweather ft. Wale – Change (Gigamesh Remix)

My Heart: The Jungle Drum.

Emiliana T.

Oouhiiieee, what a cutie video. What a cutie song. Came across this song a little while ago and absolutely fell head over heels in love with it. This little Icelandic singer, Emilíana Torrini, has been around for a fair amount of time but I have yet to look into the rest of her material. If this lady’s stuff is anything like “Jungle Drum” then I’m sold on her f’reals.

The video reminds me of a kiddie television special — like out of nowhere there should be cartoon characters jumping out telling us what letter comes after “P” in the alphabet.

Admittedly, the big blue bird makeup towards the end is a bit much, and so is the outrageous orange moo-moo that she sports in the beginning. Homegirl better watch herself or she’s gonna have some trouble joining the real world again f’reals.

Nevertheless – No overkill on special f/x, and just enough to keep me interested f’sho. Take a peek at the vid and see for yourself. Be warned it’s tough to fight off homegirl’s charm.

Friday Fave

So unfortunately, many apologies, you’re girlie here has fallen WAY behind on her Friday Faves. Truth be told new music has taken a bit of a back-seat to the creating of my own new material. Keep you’re eyes wide open f’sho, there should be new stuff comin’ attcha real soon (soon to be available on MySpace).

With that said, if anything this week has been a mega MSTRKRFT, SebatiAn, and Mysto & Pizzi week. Give these tracks a quick peek and get your weekend just a-bumpin’. Happy weekend kids, the fun is just beginning.

1. MSTRKRFT ft. John Legend – Heartbreaker

2. Kelis – Bossy (SebatiAn Remix)

3. Justin Timberlake – Lovestoned (Mysto & Pizzi Remix)

The Girls All Jelly.

Tokyo Diva

Aiight, aiight, aiight. So let’s be honest, her look is a little Lady Gaga copycat-ish, but if I could pull it off I would to. Hell, her lyrics say it like it is, damn straight I’m jelly.

Kinda came across this girlie by accident last week, searching for remixes of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi,” which I didn’t find BTW (too my disappointment) and instead ended up with TD’s freaking sweet lil’ jam-a-ramas.

“They all hate me, but they lookin’ like thriller — they mad, my only competition is a mirror.” — Oouhiiie, a vanity insanity kinda tune? That’s my jam.

Reminiscent of Lil’ Mama, this girlie has a little more of Kid Sister in her — just enough to make her stuff above acceptable f’sho. As far as I’m concerned, girl’s got it goin’ on. If you haven’t already heard her stuff, she’s worth a quick peek f’sho — go girlie, go.

1. Tokyo Diva – Rollerz Out

2. Tokyo Diva – Jelly

Tweenie Talk.

Tweenie

OmG sO cOoL rIgHt? WhEn WaS tHe LaSt TiMe YoU tYpEd LiKe ThIs?

Um, try NEVER. One of the few pet peeves that I have accrued over the past is the infamous teeny bopper type. The days of alternating capital/lower-case letter screen names on MSN are SO passé f’reals.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but these days I’m feeling older and older because teens or “tweens,” if you will, are gettin’ younger and younger. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems like 12 is the new 18. Girlies please, I don’t wanna be seein’ none of that pre-pubescent midriff or non-existent cleavage. Y’all know that no amount of padding, gel pouches, or toilet paper could ever give you the lift you’re lookin’ for.

While riding transit (my glorious daily chariot) the other day I ended up eavesdropping on a group of teenies on the bus (it was too difficult to drown them out seeing as they practically yelled everything they said). “I slept with him and I was SOOOO DRUNK.” “Yeah, we smoked like 3 fat joints one after the other.” “My dad is friends with the owner so we got into the club SO easily.” – WHAT??!?! NO.

Tweenies

This is gettin’ WAY outta hand if you ask me. I totally get that your early years are for experimentation and feelin’ your way around new things (hell, I went through it myself) but not when you’ve only just learned how to write in basic essay format. GOOD LORD.  Older sibs need to get these kids in check. I guarantee you your resident girlie here will definitely be giving her little broski a firm talkin’ to. All this ridiculousness gives me the heebie jeebies.

Jiggy Prince: Where You At?

June 30, 2009 by missgoshinmon

WOAH! Today I got a big healthy helping of Will Smith. Where did that guy’s music go?! One of my all time fave songs is STILL Miami f’sho. I don’t think that homeboy’s comeback album (“Lost and Found”) in 2005 did him a whole lot of good. “Switch” was a mere 6/10 for me – a bare minimum pass as far as I’m concerned compared to the previous bumpin’ beats.

Where is my “Getting’ Jiggy Wit It,” or “Summertime,” with Jazzy Jeff? Be-boppin’ hits like that — THAT’S THE KINDA STUFF I WANT. You put that stuff on and just TRY to tell me you ain’t at least got a head bob goin’ on.

Despite his creepily clean reputation, I think deep down at heart out guy Willie is definitely a bad boy f’reals. Homeboy left the music scene for movies, Jada and his kiddies. Whatevs, I can respect that, but playa please, you gotta leave a girl with something better than “Switch.”

Will, come at me this time with a real comeback, not a slack-back and we’ll pretend that “Lost and Found” never even happened. *WINK*

She Ain’t Got WHAT On You?

Destiny's Child

TOTALLY heard for the very first time yesterday that one of the founding girlies of Destiny’s Child, Letoya Luckett, is trying to hit it hard with a solo career. I feel as though I’m really catching on to this one a little on the late side. APPARENTLY homegirl’s been goin’ at this solo thing for a while-and-a-half — this is news to me.

NOT ONLY THAT, I’m slightly reluctant to say this, but her current single is catchy as hell. The devil himself be down there happy clappin’ along to this song f’reals. “She Ain’t Got S*** On Me” is a pretty typical summer pop track with a bouncing beat and “F%$! you ex-boyfriend look what you’re missin’ out on now” lyrics.

Who knows where her inspiration for this one cropped up, maybe way back in the day Lady Letoya had a fling with big man Jay-Z? Do I sense some possible Beyoncé hatin’? “Trynna steal you away but I ain’t havin’ that I’ma put my foot down on homegirl’s neck…” — Oouhiiieee, thems sound like fightin’ words to me. Ring the bell the fight is on, I’d pay for paperview to watch that shiz f’sho.

For right now, I definitely give Letoya a little more credit than the other girls from DC that tried the solo careers, even though Michelle Williams didn’t do TOO badly (she’s worth at least a brief look-see f’sho). When it all comes down to it though, I can’t be pickin’ sides. Missy Beyoncé and Lady Letoya both have good things goin’ for them. Batter up and battle on girlies, battle on.

Give a listen to Letoya’s summer stab and see what YOU think of this former DC girl scrappin’ for the spotlight.
