Many apologies for my long absence folks. I’m sad to say that as of recent other things have been nabbing my attention every time I try to jot something down. It was beginning to feel a little like when you’re mobbed by door-to-door salesmen — they always seem to come a knockin’ when your fave shows are on, or you have someone over.
Anyways, other thoughts aside — oouuuhhhiiiieee, do I love this video. It’s like a mishmash of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” and Kanye’s “Good Life” — with, in my opinion, some freaking top-notch tunage. Give it a quick peek and let Izza take you out of your same ol’ day-to-day repeat life for 3 minutes and 17 seconds. Trust me, it’s worth it f’reals.
Chins up kids, I know it’s Monday, but that just means there’s another weekend comin’ up real’ quick!
This week has been a long one. I think 99.9% of y’all will agree with me when I say: thank god it’s Friday.
I’ll keep this short and sweet, this week was decent for music. Seems as though my favourite tracks this week have actually been kickin’ around for a while already, again, not that that lessens their goodness in any way, shape or form.
A line from the first track from Clipse says it all: “Life as we know it begins on Friday night.” Bounce these tracks and get your weekend just a-poppin’. – happy weekend kids.
Okay now girlies, one look at the left picure says — dayum, he ain’t bad. When you glance to the right and realize that, yes indeed, this is a young Drew Carey (WHAT??!?), the thought quickly disperses and wanders over to someone more deserving of your thoughts and compliments — like Colin Farrell for instance.
This picture needed to be brought up purley for novelty’s sake. How do you go from being in the marines to hosting The Price Is Right? Answer me that Drew, answer me that. Just goes to show that having your own sit-com, being on Who’s Line Is It Anyways?, and hosting a game show can’t keep you slim, trim and young. It’s alright Drew, keep your head up and serve me up a healthy helping of Plinko, everyone knows you can’t go back in time.
Some jams to get your weekend wound up and ready for the nights ahead. This medley of tunes comes to you a couple weeks delayed but rest assured that they still taste fresh like they’re straight out yo’ mama’s oven.
It’s been a while since I’ve heard some heavy synth and bumpin’ bass, so I was pleased when I came across the Bloody Beetroots track, as well as the Kid Sister remix. “P. Diddy” on the other hand is a song created for a good time. It sounds like a tune that would be used in the soundtrack for one of the Legally Blonde movies or something — you can’t help but bob your head to the catchy “party till’ the sunlight” lyrics. I dig, I dig. It’s such a feel good girlie track — which quite frankly I find odd. Not gonna lie, just from the name, I thought this track would sound more like the other two (hard synth and rap verses), but instead it’s poppy and very “Just Dance“-ish.
At any rate, get these tracks bumpin’in your pods, cars, or stereos and enjoy the weekend kids. ENJOY.
Oouuhiieee, this week was good. If, of course, you minus the fact that it was WAY too hot all week to function normally. Spending a whole week in weather that feels like 30 and above degrees when you’re used to weather always below 10 is a little tough to deal with. This week, going to the beach to soak up some vitamin D became a task that was all to difficult for any mere mortal. Anymore than 30 minutes in the direct sun resulted in a goner f’reals.
Apologies for missing last week’s Friday Faves, but this week hopefully will make up for it.
This week truthfully didn’t consist of much variety. Your girlie here didn’t have a lot of spare time kickin’ around this week. The music that I did come across though is music that needs to be acknowledged.
His name? Izza Kizza. His style? AMAZING. Izza Kizza has two mixtapes out with DJ Nick Catchdubs (Kizzalandand Wizard Of Iz) and they have BLOWN MY MIND. The tracks below are just a taste, and my personal faves, of his material. (To download his mixtapes, click the album covers.)
You can either download the full mixtapes, or give a listen to my top 3 personal fave tracks.
Hopefully most of you have also had a week worth celebrating. Where ever this comes to you, be it in the car, on a lappy at school, or at home in your undies trying to escape the heat, give these tunes a listen and get your weekend started with something good.
Chins up and look alive kids, the weekend is here. Enjoy!
OKAY SO, admittedly, I am in Urban Outfitters pretty often. However it’s not because I myself am a big Urby fiend, it’s because I have friends who are ALL about the Urb.
At any rate, I usually don’t have a problem going in there because I’m NEVER bothered by the staff (who are almost always to busy looking up their own bottoms digging for new levels of “coolness” to offer me something bare minimum like CUSTOMER SERVICE) but today all of my previous toleration tactics were shattered as I was approached by a staff member only to have him say to me: “Wow, I see you in here a lot.” – WHAT THE HELL’S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN? To which I answered (stunned): “What?” Guy: “Yeah, you must really like the stuff in here or something.” Me: Speechless, I walk away awkwardly.
Thanks man, you really make me wana come into your hipster-chique chain store again. Drained of all will to look for half -decent clothing, I left the store empty handed and can say for sure that it’ll be a good long while before I step foot in that place again f’sho.
So typical, one of few times I decide to venture into the “to-cool for mere mortals” store on my own, I get burned real’ bad. What I think I’m trying to say, is that if you dig the Urb, ups for you. If you don’t, I think you’ll agree with me when I say all I want to do is fill out — no, shout a comment card in an employee’s face, knock over a couple things for them to clean up, spill a little pop or coffee on some merchandise and claim it wasn’t my fault, walk away and never look back.
In the words of yet another person constantly trying to achieve new levels of “coolness”, Paris Hilton, TTYN Urban Outfitters, TTYN.
Just a QUICKIE, in case you haven’t heard via any other communication device (Facebook or Twitter), I have just wrapped up an cutie summer song for everyone to enjoy.
This track reminds me a great deal of something you would hear from the soundtrack of “Juno.” Like “Sea Of Love” by Cat Power or something. Get ready cause’ it’s about to become your new favourite summer ditty f’reals. Not quite available for download just yet, but should be soon. Keep your eyes on the look out! Until then, click the link to give it a listen on my MySpace.
So for what feels like the past FOREVER and a half, this girlie seems to have dropped of the face of the earth only to come back part wolf?
Our girl Shakira comes back into the public eye with a new single named “La Loba” (or for those who don’t speak Spanish like Baxter, Ron Burgundy’s cutie sidekick, “She Wolf”). When I first started listening to this track I had a hard time believing that it was actually her, but as soon as the main vocals kick in it’s pretty clear. If you’re curious, yes, she’s still got the trademark “I’ve got something big lodged in my throat and I’ma sing around it” sound.
The track is catchy, and as per usual is offered in English and Español. Luckily, unlike some Spango to Engo songs, this song translates fairly well. ”I’m starting to feel just a little abused like a coffee machine in an office…” — Girl, tell me about it, you and at least a good handful of girls I went to high school with (laugh out-freaking-loud).
While I feel like this track has nothing on some of her past jam-a-ramas (like La Tortura — so fantastico), it’s still got a little zippy something to it. Give it a listen, see what you think, it’s a little plain and isn’t a personal favourite, but is worth a peek just the same. This girlie is definitely Miss Goshinmon APPROVED.
OH AND, before I forget, another little tid-bit about homegirl is that for her third studio English album she’s collabing with Pharrell. THAT’S CORRECT, y’heard me. Dig it. My fingers are quadruple crossed that this duo doesn’t dissapoint. Hopes are high, and until I hear a reason to bring them back down to middle ground, I’ma keep em’ up there. Stay tuned!
What's kickin' kids? Miss Goshinmon is the name and makin' music, socializing, and blogging is the game. Always trying to keep an eye out for something out of the ordinary worth talkin' about. Stay tuned, I don't disappoint.
